Yoga And Meditation

Exam season can be very unsettling and stressful for students. If you are affected by stress and panic during exams then learning relaxation techniques can be one of the most valuable ways of preparing. There is no point in revising to the extent that you are a nervous wreck on the day of the exam. Balance is crucial.

As well as a professional teacher, I am also a qualified yoga and meditation teacher. I first turned to yoga and meditation during my A levels as a way of managing nerves and calming my mind before (and even in) my exams. Simple silent breathing exercises can help instantly calm nerves. Throughout the four years I spent at Cambridge University, yoga and meditation proved an invaluable tool to helping me achieve balance, study effectively and really enjoy my time at University. Since becoming a teacher I have seen the way that exam pressures can negatively affect students and result in them getting too nervous to perform to the best of their ability. I decided to undergo my training as a yoga and meditation teacher in order to help bring a sense of calm and perspective to students feeling overwhelmed.

I specialise in two types of private class:

  • Stress relief - These restorative classes focus on simple yoga postures to calm the mind, integrated with breathing techniques, mind focusing exercises and yoga nidra (yogic sleep). The aim of these classes is to leave students with a greater sense of peace and ease, having released pent up tension and relaxed the mind.
  • Remaining active during revision - Research has shown the importance of remaining active during long periods of revision. Relaxing the muscles is a vital way of relaxing the mind and releasing stiffness. In these classes I teach students exercises that they can use in their own time to help improve circulation, concentration and alertness.
