11+ English | Elisa Mitrofan

" “Elisa didn't work with our son Oscar for a long period, however, she achieved great results in a short space of time. She quickly picked up where the previous tutor had laid off. She built a great rapport with him during the very first session and understood immediately why we were tutoring. Our goals were to increase confidence and encourage Oscar to challenge himself, rather than coasting through. He attends an excellent state primary, however, we just felt that some one to one attention would be a huge benefit. Elisa used Oscar's love of reading to inspire him and helped him to organise his thoughts when transferring them on to paper. She was careful not to overwhelm, but definitely hit these targets. We were always left with a sensible amount of homework and this clearly complimented the lesson that had just taken place. Elisa also suggested books that he might like to read and made the vocab tasks a lot of fun. Oscar always looked forward to his tutoring sessions, a true indication of Elisa's skills and enthusiasm! I would thoroughly recommend Elisa and can't thank her enough!” " ... See Elisa Mitrofan's tutoring profile.

I am an empathetic and enthusiastic tutor with over 1000 hours of experience and a member of the Tutor’s Association. Parents have consistently commented on my ability to inspire and build excellent rapport with their children. In all my tutorials, I endeavour to cultivate the untapped potential that is can be difficult to unlock in the very formal and hierarchical school environment. What is more, my experiences as a tutor and observations in schools have also given me a strong insight into how to develop a form of pedagogy that is congenial to tutorials but not irreconcilable with classroom teaching. ...
My name is Sasha and I'm a junior doctor working at Homerton University Hospital, in North-East London. I completed an undergraduate degree, and Masters, in chemistry (with chemical biology) at Magdalen College, Oxford, and then went on to study Medicine (Graduate-Entry) at King's College London. I have been tutoring for the past 7 years, across a range of subjects and levels; my aim is always to broaden and develop my students' understanding of their subject, before going on to develop exam technique and build confidence. ...
Rish graduated from University College London with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Economics and teaches a variety of subjects to students from aged 7 to 18 years old in both one to one and group settings. He has extensive experience in helping children achieve their potential through simple yet productive methods, primarily focusing on 7+, 11+, GCSE & A Level examinations. He works closely with the parents or guardians of the student to create accessible and efficient plans of action, giving the student the greatest opportunity to succeed. Aside from tuition, his passions lie in sports, including Football and Mountaineering, as well as volunteering for organisations aiming to improve Educational opportunities in rural Africa. ...
Prior to studying a degree in Anthropology at Cambridge (BA Hons 2:1), I went to Oakham School where I studied an eclectic mix of A-levels (History, Geography, Biology and Fine Art), and achieved top grades in all four subjects. This range of subjects, and the degree that followed, reflect my interest in people and why we behave as we do. Indeed I am continuing to pursue this interest, and am currently studying an MSc in Psychology at the University of Surrey.

Before studying at Surrey, I worked in the advertising industry (J Walter Thompson) and for a behavioural consultancy as a Project Manager. Whilst on the graduate scheme at J Walter Thompson, I won the Chrissie Barker award for Top Graduate in my year, achieved a Distinction in my IPA (Institute for Practitioners of Advertising) Foundation Award, and completed the IPA Effectiveness, and Legislation and Regulation awards. I also spent a month working and travelling in Japan, which was utterly fascinating.

Throughout my professional career I built a reputation as someone people turned to for support and I enjoyed helping develop new starters. I also have a wealth of insight when it comes to CV’s, personal statements and interview techniques – all of which are front of mind for me having just applied to university again myself. ...
I took a teaching post at Harrow School in 2015, teaching IGCSEs in English Language and Literature and delivering lectures to A-level students. I was also made Director-in-Residence and Master-in-Charge of Debating. Earlier that year I graduated with a first class degree in English Language and Literature from Christ Church, Oxford, where I was one of the twelve original Reuben Scholars. My papers in Shakespeare and Beckett for Finals were classed as publishable. Throughout my time at Oxford and Harrow, I have accumulated extensive experience tutoring privately for a range of abilities, from pre-test to university admissions. Although my undergraduate degree was in the arts, I have always nurtured a healthy interest in subjects across the curriculum, having studied Further Mathematics and Physics at A Level, and I am continually excited by the prospect of facilitating the development of a student’s academic pursuits in a variety of disciplines. A constant desire to advance my own knowledge energises me as a tutor, and I believe that communicating this enthusiasm allows me to stimulate both the curiosity and diligence of my tutees. ...
I am a very experienced teacher of languages and have taught students of all ages (both primary and secondary), abilities and backgrounds. I love being part of the process of enabling students to achieve their potential and have spent many years working in classrooms, one to one tutoring as well as designing the new qualifications for A level and GCSE for one of the exam boards. This has given me an excellent understanding of their requirements as well as how to prepare for success in the new qualifications. ...
I grew up in London, and was in school at Godolphin and Latymer before deciding to head to the US to attend Phillips Academy, Andover for high school. I then went on to study History of Art at Harvard University where I graduated magna cum laude with high honors. After two years working at an art gallery in New York, I returned to London where I received my Master's degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art. I have since returned to New York where I am working toward my PhD at CUNY Graduate Center.

Throughout my education I have benefitted form tutoring to help me achieve my academic goals and I understand how effective one-on-one teaching can be in preparing for big tests, catching up in a specific subject, and also building confidence. I am particularly experienced in helping students prepare for US independent and boarding school entrance examinations (ISEE, SSAT) and in working with students who need help with their personal essays or general applications for boarding school or university. As an alumni admission representative at Phillips Academy, I have worked with many students who are working on preparing applications to boarding schools and enjoy helping them to identify their strengths and use those to build a strong application. ...
A personable, articulate Cambridge graduate, who loves working with young people. I’m a natural problem solver, with a strong desire to ensure the success of my students. My strengths as a tutor involve creating a calm, non-judgemental space to learn, which I find allows students to develop their confidence and discover their talents.

At school, I combined a stellar rugby career, playing to a county standard, with academic excellence, achieving top grade A-Levels across the board, and earning a place at the University of Cambridge. I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a very solid 2.1 degree in Theology and Religious Studies in 2013. In my final year at Cambridge, I was the captain of the Clare College University Challenge team, making the quarter finals of the nationally televised competition.

My desire to teach began while I was still at school: Aged 16, I volunteered teaching English in my lunch breaks at my local primary school, and mentoring younger students at my own school who were not achieving their potential.

I have always been attracted to a wide range of challenges. After graduating from Cambridge, I began training as a secondary school RE teacher. I then pursued a career in fundraising, spending the last two years with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in London. I am now exploring training as a psychotherapist. ...
I graduated last year with a 1st in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. My experience as a tutor extends across different levels and subjects, from teaching English as a foreign language to 11+ exams, and university entrance preparation. Throughout the years, I have worked with students on a wide range of curriculums to hone their skills and expand not only their knowledge, but also their interest and love for the subject. Having won a bursary to attend Wellington College in 2011, I studied the IB, and was one of the very few students in the world to achieve a maximum of 45 points. Some of the distinctions I was awarded for my academic performances include the Gavin Ewart Poetry Prize, the Verrall English Prize, the Music Essay Prize, and the Lady Emma Talbot Special Prize. I went on to earn a place at Oxford University where I read BA Honours in English Language and Literature. Following my Distinction in Prelims, I was awarded the Casberd Scholarship for outstanding results. ...
I am a current graduate student based in London, studying Sustainable Urban Planning & Design. I received my bachelor's in Social Anthropology (with a minor in Environmental Science & Public Policy) from Harvard University in 2015. While at Harvard, I wrote for The Harvard Crimson and The Huffington Post, as well as a variety of other publications. I also conducted research on transportation policy in São Paulo, Brazil for Harvard's Graduate School of Design. I have worked in consulting in New York City, and in the public sector in Stockholm, Sweden.

I have tutored a wide variety of students, from college applicants to high school students in Boston to refugees in Stockholm. I specialize in English tutoring and writing assistance, but have familiarity with all subjects. I speak five languages: Spanish, Swedish, Portuguese, French, and of course, English. I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and am a dual Swedish-American citizen. ...
