My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I started tutoring at the age of 18, helping 11+, and GCSE students prepare for their exams. This involved both strategic lessons, such as going through past exam papers, working on exam technique etc. In some cases (often where we had a more time before the exam) it was more exploratory, really peaking the students' interest so they felt fully engaged as we went into the more rigorous and tactical exam paper based practice.

On moving to Madrid, the year after I graduated, I built a private tutoring practice for business professionals who needed to learn English in order to progress in their careers.

My Approach to Tutoring

I have been a private tutor to a wide range of students, from 11+ students who just lacked confidence, to Spanish GCSE students who felt they couldn't engage with the style of teaching at school, to busy working professionals who needed to learn English for their jobs.

In each case, I have spent time getting to know the students, understanding how they work, and then using my knowledge from having studied the theory of education to createways to engage them. My success is their success - so it's important to understand what success looks like for them! For some students, success looks like re-engaging with learning, and discovering an enjoyment of different subjects. For others, it looks like achieving a certain grade, and a much for results driven approach is needed. In all cases, I personally believe the students need to have fun and feel inspired and I see it as my job to make sure that happens.

Fun Facts About Me

I am a singer! I regularly perform in a Funk and Soul band, at weddings and parties. We formed at University and just love playing music together so have continued into our professional lives.

I'm also training for my first triathlon this Summer, so am spending a fair amount of time in the pool and on my bike, which is a great new challenge.

I have a first-class degree in Education, English and Drama from St John's College, the University of Cambridge and a great deal of teaching experience both internationally and in the UK. With a body of educational thought behind my work, I've lectured on William Shakespeare in The Cayman Islands, the US and Switzerland (among other venues). Working with touring theatre groups I have expertise in theatrical texts and classical plays. I taught at an independent secondary school in Bath, preparing students for their GCSE and A-Level examinations and taking responsibility for A-Level coursework. After applying my educational experience to the corporate sector I have returned to Freelance teaching full-time. ...
I graduated from Oriel College, Oxford in July 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. Throughout my school career I have balanced academic life with competitive tennis as a government funded, semi-professional player. This required huge drive and efficiency, for which I was rewarded with a stellar set of results at both GCSE and A-Level and a place at Oxford. Before starting my degree, I began tutoring part-time and have since helped children of a range of ages and abilities achieve similar academic excellence. I specialise in entrance to the UK's top schools, and have tutored students towards 7+, 8+, 11+ and Common Entrance to Westminster, St. Paul's and King's College to name a few. I am also interested in preparing students for Oxbridge entrance, and look to develop a student's passion for subjects beyond the syllabus not only immediately preceding their application, but in the years prior. I wish to help as many students as possible reach their desired academic goals and hugely enjoy transferring my own knowledge to my young protégées. ...
I am a highly experienced tutor of GCSE and A-Level English, with a warm and friendly nature and a creative and inspiring approach. I am a part-time Lecturer in English at the University of Oxford and have expertise in Oxbridge preparation having served on two Oxford college Admissions panels. I have a 1st Class BA in English from the University of Cambridge, a Masters with Distinction in English from the University of Oxford, and an award-winning PhD in English from the University of Cambridge. I have taught students of all different abilities, and look forward to getting to know each student that needs my help. “I have no hesitation in fully recommending Jasmine as a private tutor. She supported my son through his GCSE and ‘A’ level years, not only by competently helping him develop the literacy skills he needed, but by keeping him engaged and motivated. Focussed, fun and fantastic; we were so lucky to find her.” ...
I am a current graduate student based in London, studying Sustainable Urban Planning & Design. I received my bachelor's in Social Anthropology (with a minor in Environmental Science & Public Policy) from Harvard University in 2015. While at Harvard, I wrote for The Harvard Crimson and The Huffington Post, as well as a variety of other publications. I also conducted research on transportation policy in São Paulo, Brazil for Harvard's Graduate School of Design. I have worked in consulting in New York City, and in the public sector in Stockholm, Sweden.

I have tutored a wide variety of students, from college applicants to high school students in Boston to refugees in Stockholm. I specialize in English tutoring and writing assistance, but have familiarity with all subjects. I speak five languages: Spanish, Swedish, Portuguese, French, and of course, English. I grew up in Portland, Oregon, and am a dual Swedish-American citizen. ...
I graduated from Cambridge University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law. I first started tutoring when I was 17 as a peer mentor for students who required further help in preparing for their GCSEs. Since then, I have continued to tutor privately as well as working for well regarded organisations such as, the Oxford & Cambridge Summer School and Save the Children Int'l. The majority of my experience is working with children 14 years and above, however, I am equally confident teaching younger ages. I find tutoring incredibly rewarding and enjoy seeing the development and success of my tutees. ...
I've been tutoring and working with children part time since I finished school in 2014, and have graduated from Oxford University, where I studied English literature. Before that, I took IB at Wellington College, in which I scored 43 out of a possible 45 points. I've tutored in London, Oxford and Hong Kong, worked as a nanny, and set up and continue to run a school sponsorship program in Nepal, which provides disadvantaged children with the opportunity to be educated in Kathmandu. For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of tutoring is helping students gain confidence in something they thought they would never understand, or felt they weren't good at, turning a daunting task into something enjoyable. I've worked with children who range from 3 to 23 years old, but have most experience with Common Entrance at 11+ and 13+. The breath of the IB course means that I'm able to teach a range of subjects to a high standard, and have great experience balancing academic work with other areas of life, as well as finding important overlaps between diverse subjects and interests. ...
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2015, where I studied French and Italian. Since then, I have completed the Graduate Diploma in Law with Distinction and I am currently studying for the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Moorgate. I have been working as a tutor for four years, with a particular focus on language tuition, Oxbridge applications and tutoring for the 11+. For me, tutoring is an incredibly rewarding experience. I particularly enjoy the opportunity to watch my tutees make progress not only in terms of their academic ability but also in developing self-confidence and a love for learning overall. ...
I have experience teaching a range of ages, both privately part-time and in full time employment as a teacher at Hurstpierpoint College, where I worked for a year before starting my degree at Oxford University. I have delivered private tuition to children between 5 and 20 years. I find tutoring immensely rewarding and particularly enjoy the focused nature of assisting an individual with their academic goals. ...
Prior to studying a degree in Anthropology at Cambridge (BA Hons 2:1), I went to Oakham School where I studied an eclectic mix of A-levels (History, Geography, Biology and Fine Art), and achieved top grades in all four subjects. This range of subjects, and the degree that followed, reflect my interest in people and why we behave as we do. Indeed I am continuing to pursue this interest, and am currently studying an MSc in Psychology at the University of Surrey.

Before studying at Surrey, I worked in the advertising industry (J Walter Thompson) and for a behavioural consultancy as a Project Manager. Whilst on the graduate scheme at J Walter Thompson, I won the Chrissie Barker award for Top Graduate in my year, achieved a Distinction in my IPA (Institute for Practitioners of Advertising) Foundation Award, and completed the IPA Effectiveness, and Legislation and Regulation awards. I also spent a month working and travelling in Japan, which was utterly fascinating.

Throughout my professional career I built a reputation as someone people turned to for support and I enjoyed helping develop new starters. I also have a wealth of insight when it comes to CV’s, personal statements and interview techniques – all of which are front of mind for me having just applied to university again myself. ...
