My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I have taught A level Biology revision classes in a high school, and as a private tutor. I help students overcome the challenges of a new curriculum, and am able to provide real-world additional knowledge from my experience in Biomedical Science.

I have taught maths to children aged 8-13 both in a group setting and as a private tutor. I encourage students to put computational, mathematical and problem-solving skills into practice through examples, exercises and games.

I taught tap dancing at university, and in all-age workshops during my gap year. A very different type of teaching, but one that encourages persistence, discipline and passion - all important for academic subjects too.

My Approach to Tutoring

For me, the most important part of tutoring is building confidence, wherever the student is starting from. I like to get a good understanding of a student's strengths, and where there is room for improvement, encouraging the strengths whilst addressing the aspects that need working on. Sometimes that can be about going over a topic afresh, or other times just practising a skill, such as solving an equation. Where students are preparing for exams, I include some exam questions, to maintain technique. Lastly, I like to find out what a student finds stimulating about a subject, and give some time to nurturing that interest, as enjoyment makes hard work easier.

Fun Facts About Me

I love to dance and have danced for almost 20 years. A keen singer, I have previously sung in classical choirs and performed in musicals. Having taken a year away from London during my gap year, I have enjoyed returning to all that London has to offer in the way of culture and the arts.

I am a passionate private tutor with over 8 years of experience and an excellent track record. I tutor a range of subjects with a particular focus on Maths and the Sciences and Oxbridge and Medical School applications. During my education, I was an Academic Scholar at Alleyn's School, where I achieved straight A*s at GCSE and A level before heading to Cambridge, where I studied Natural Sciences. At Cambridge, I took modules in Maths, Chemistry and Biochemistry and specialised in Cancer, Genetics and Virology. During my time at Cambridge, I was awarded 2 academic scholarships as well as a choral scholarship. Following Cambridge I enjoyed a brief stint in Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley, where my desire to pursue a career in Medicine crystallised. I started studying Graduate Medicine at Imperial College London with an entry scholarship in 2017. I achieved a starred distinction in my first year exams and was awarded a prize for coming top of my year in Anatomy & Physiology. I strive to transfer the passion, understanding and study skills I have developed during my own education to my students, to help them excel both at school and in their futures. ...

I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Psychology at UCL, having already graduated with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences at Nottingham University where I specialised in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. I also conducted research examining the efficacy of psychotherapeutic medication and reviewed the literature on virtual reality therapy’s benefit as an intervention in weakness following a stroke. Between the ages of 11 and 18, I attended Manchester Grammar School where I achieved 7A* grades at GCSE and AAB at A-level. This experience has given me a very strong understanding, not only of the relevant exam specifications, but also what exactly is needed for students to achieve the top grades and go on to thrive at Russell Group universities. I am entering my penultimate year of the highly competitive accelerated Graduate Medicine degree at King's College London where I am in the top decile and was previously awarded a first class degree from UCL in Neurophysiology and Neuropharmacology. Since 2014, while studying I have worked continuously in the service industry (as one of a 6 person team behind one of London's top craft breweries), entertainment (as a host for live music events across London) and in drug policy and harm reduction (as a content producer and spokesperson for the Alcohol and Drug Education Consultancy). I am entering my fifth year studying Medicine at King's College London, a subject that constantly provides its scholars with evolving learning opportunities and requires a dynamic problem solving ability. My study in Medicine has two sides; I have a large interest in the innermost workings of the human body and find its intricacies fascinating, from hard numbers in physiology and biochemistry to the art of anatomy. On the other hand, I also enjoy the patient-doctor interaction and its cultivation through effective communication and problem resolving skills. I organise a London-wide society interested in the specialty of Sports Medicine with the aim of narrowing the gap between the professional and undergraduate worlds. This aim relies heavily on recruiting valuable speakers and opportunities, whilst coordinating the activities of my society and those of university-based societies. I also sit on the committee of the UK's undergraduate Sports Medicine society. My success through my medical career insofar has been built on utilisation of different learning techniques to understand and confidently apply information. I also embrace techniques such as goal-setting to formulate long term plans for personal and organisational development. I was educated at a state comprehensive in Garston, Watford. Throughout secondary school, I did not enjoy the teaching as I was unable to engage with the material or teachers. I missed out on valuable opportunities and my grades foundered. At GCSE level, however, I had great benefit after I started extra-curricular tuition, an experience that made my learning more accessible and enjoyable. Since then, I have embraced 'learning' as a process to be developed, understood and enjoyed. Throughout medical school I have aided colleagues with their own learning and last year, formally tutored for medical practical exams. Outside of Medicine, I like to do many things! I am a keen sportsman, representing King's College London Cycling team. I play a variety of different sports, and am still keen to throw a rugby ball around. I have an extensive reading list that I am working through, and I like to paint when I have a spare weekend. ...
