Dr Katherine Wiles - Private Tutor in Central London
I am the CEO of Wentworth Tutors. I started Wentworth in order to bring together a group of high calibre tutors dedicated to learning as a lifelong process. Our mission is to provide the laser focus, confidence-building, and magic of one-to-one learning to our students
As an education consultant, I have worked with hundreds of families across the world covering the US, UK, and IB syllabi and applications to schools, universities, and beyond. I also lead our international relocations and homeschooling placements. With Wentworth's pro-bono team, I have organised mentoring and application coaching for >100 inner city London students. I take on a small number of US College Counselling applicants personally each year. Please contact the team to discuss further
I am a medical doctor and a former McKinsey strategy consultant. I graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 2012 with a 1st class degree in Natural Sciences and the Cambridge University Physiology Prize for excellence in my written dissertation. Raised in both Princeton, New Jersey and Cambridge, England, I am an expert in the differences between the American and English educational systems as I was accepted as an undergraduate to Harvard, Princeton, MIT, CalTech, and Cambridge. My Tutoring & Teaching Experience
I first started teaching in 2005 as a volunteer teaching underprivileged students to play wind instruments in Trenton, NJ. For the last decade I have taught privately and through nonprofit organisations. I have taught subjects including History, English, Mathematics, and Sciences to students from all over the world. I also teach the SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ACT exams. The resources that I have developed for these exams are now employed by the Wentworth network of tutors.
I have additionally started the US College Consulting, UK Applications, International Relocation, Schools Advice, Homeschooling, and Pro Bono arms of Wentworth Tutors
My Approach to Tutoring
My tutoring style is a combination of rigour and discipline in an environment that is engaging and relaxing. I ask questions of my students to help them articulate their learning process. I also encourage students to develop structure in how they approach problems: a skill that is invaluable whether writing an essay or solving a complex mathematics problem. I believe that in today's educational world, students are too often afraid to ask questions. I have often observed that these questions are not only very insightful but are extremely helpful to students in clarifying their own conceptual understanding. I have a relaxed style while actively encouraging my students to ask any and all questions about which we then discuss.
Fun Facts About Me
I recently spoke at the American School of London's TedX talk about college interview questions. In my spare time I like to ski and sail.
