My Tutoring & Teaching Experience
I was previously a writing tutor for a classics program (Structured Liberal Education) at Stanford, helping students to learn to make good arguments and structure their writing, as well as do close readings of important texts. I also tutored elementary mathematics to children in a nearby school. I helped teach a course in philosophy at the Global Center for Advanced Studies where I was a Teaching Assistant. I recently completed a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) from Cambridge University where I learned new teaching techniques.
My Approach to Tutoring
My approach to tutoring is focused on the students I work with. No two students have the same combination of strengths and goals, and my work is always tailored to those needs. In general, I try to make lessons engaging, integrating the interests of the students and referring to pop culture.
Fun Facts About Me
I love to scuba dive, cook, and bake with my partner, Sarah, who is a political theorist. I enjoy singing and have been in semi-professional choirs in the past. I love hiking and exploring the countryside and have a soft spot for anything nerdy (anything from scifi and fantasy to Dungeons and Dragons).
