After graduating from Harvard with a B.A. in Neurobiology I worked as a management consultant in the US for three years before starting the graduate medicine course at King's. I taught my first class in public speaking at the age of 17 and have sought out opportunities to teach and mentor others in everything I pursue. To that end, I joined Wentworth Tutors in 2018.

My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I first worked as a public speaking and debate instructor in a public school for two years. Since then, I've conducted several communication and argumentation workshops for teachers and served as the curriculum lead of two international debate camps. While working as a consultant, I mentored new analysts and taught modules on quantitative modelling and Excel. Currently I also coach students around London through Debate Mate's after-school program.

My Approach to Tutoring

I view any learning process as one of exploration and experimentation. Not only is there a lot to learn from how the knowledge was originally discovered, but it also makes the content relevant and engaging - true understanding tends to follow curiosity and perseverance. Of course, each tutee is different and there are many possible paths to excellence, so an essential part of the process is learning how to learn and finding the best approach. Unfortunately, this is rarely a focus of any school curriculum, despite its fundamental importance.

Fun Facts About Me

In my spare time I enjoy windsurfing, music and a lively discussion. I used to manage a radio station and host a show for several years and am always looking for recommendations on new artists and songs. Many years ago I also won the best ESL speaker award at World Universities Debating Championships, which is an event exactly as nerdy as it sounds, but I loved every bit of it.

Caitlin is currently in her final year of Kings college London Graduate medical school. She has been working for Wentworth since 2015 focusing on US school and college admissions. She is a dual (US and UK) citizen who graduated with a BA in Neurobiology and Anthropology from Harvard University in 2015. In Harvard, she worked for Veritas Education for 2 years and travelled to China to work as both a teacher and US college consultant. She also tutored children with Autism throughout college. Researching and teaching children who have learning difficulties is one of her main interests. Before Harvard she completed her GCSE's and A-levels (Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Geography) in the UK. Alongside her final year of A-levels she completed the SAT and SAT II exams and went through the US college application process alongside her UK UCAS application. I am entering my fifth year studying Medicine at King's College London, a subject that constantly provides its scholars with evolving learning opportunities and requires a dynamic problem solving ability. My study in Medicine has two sides; I have a large interest in the innermost workings of the human body and find its intricacies fascinating, from hard numbers in physiology and biochemistry to the art of anatomy. On the other hand, I also enjoy the patient-doctor interaction and its cultivation through effective communication and problem resolving skills. I organise a London-wide society interested in the specialty of Sports Medicine with the aim of narrowing the gap between the professional and undergraduate worlds. This aim relies heavily on recruiting valuable speakers and opportunities, whilst coordinating the activities of my society and those of university-based societies. I also sit on the committee of the UK's undergraduate Sports Medicine society. My success through my medical career insofar has been built on utilisation of different learning techniques to understand and confidently apply information. I also embrace techniques such as goal-setting to formulate long term plans for personal and organisational development. I was educated at a state comprehensive in Garston, Watford. Throughout secondary school, I did not enjoy the teaching as I was unable to engage with the material or teachers. I missed out on valuable opportunities and my grades foundered. At GCSE level, however, I had great benefit after I started extra-curricular tuition, an experience that made my learning more accessible and enjoyable. Since then, I have embraced 'learning' as a process to be developed, understood and enjoyed. Throughout medical school I have aided colleagues with their own learning and last year, formally tutored for medical practical exams. Outside of Medicine, I like to do many things! I am a keen sportsman, representing King's College London Cycling team. I play a variety of different sports, and am still keen to throw a rugby ball around. I grew up in Devon and went to a local Grammar School, where I first started tutoring whilst studying for my A-levels.
